We are excited to announce the release of Kasten K10 version 6.0, the latest and most advanced version of our industry-leading platform that provides enterprise-grade Kubernetes data protection and application mobility. This release helps customers scale their cloud native data protection efficiently. Kubernetes deployments are growing at an unprecedented rate. Gartner predicts that by 2027, more than 90% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production. However, today’s market conditions are scarred with financial uncertainty and a shortage of cloud native skills. Therefore, you must ensure operational efficiencies are in place to unleash the full potential of your cloud native environments while protecting your data. Additionally, security remains an imperative as organizations focus on keeping their businesses running. With this release, we also continue to innovate in this growing ecosystem, so that you can take advantage of the best-of-breed inn

What’s New in V12 for VMware?

With version 12 of Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Data Platform, Veeam expands its product range with more cloud features, flexibility and innovations to Veeam’s environment.

Due to the new repository type and function “Direct-to-Object Storage”, the “VeeaMover” feature, a variety of security improvements and some extensions for VCD service providers, VMware customers will strongly benefit from Veeam Backup & Replication v12.

Let’s talk about these new features and improvements:

Direct-to-Object Storage

One of the biggest innovations in V12 is a fundamental change to the previous backup environment architecture.

Direct-to-Object Storage opens up new possibilities for customers and partners to further expand their backup strategies and cloud backup offerings.Backup data can be stored directly on object storage without needing archives or copies.

This feature broadens your capabilities when building a reliable backup strategy and offers a completely new way for customers to approach the 3-2-1 Rule and the rest of their safety requirements and policies.

When using object storage as a primary repository, organizations can benefit from:

  • Easy-to-implement immutable storage
  • Very high availability (i.e., 99.999999999%) and reliability offered by cloud storage vendors
  • Simplified storage for branch offices or home office users without needing to purchase dedicated hardware
  • More flexibility in VMware hyperscale environments (i.e., no stage repository with expensive virtual hard discs)

With V12:

VeeaMover

VeeaMover makes it easier to manage all kinds of backup data. Especially with Direct-to-Object Storage, many customers will look to easily migrate their data from on-premises to object storage without losing the relationship with the corresponding backup jobs.

Previously, customers had to make manual changes to their configuration and leverage various workarounds so that their backup data could be migrated with their respective backup jobs.

With VeeaMover, this process has been greatly simplified. It enables organizations to perform a full-fledged migration in just a few clicks.

There are many other use cases including:

  • Moving data to an immutable repository
  • Moving an NTFS repository to REFS/XFS
  • Moving workloads to new hardware or object storage
  • Rebalancing backup storage

In summary, VeeaMover simplifies operations and further enhances our customers’ data freedom.

Security improvements

Also in V12, Veeam continues to improve our defenses against the ever-improving ransomware and hacker attack landscape.

  • Trusted immutability for every workload: Ensure that your backups can always be restored after a cyberattack with comprehensive, enterprise-grade immutability options from trusted vendors. This includes on-premises object, block and file storage, hardened repositories and deduplicating storage appliances, cloud object storage and tape.
  • Improved cyber resiliency: Enable the fastest response to ransomware attacks by identifying and alerting with Veeam ONE as well as restoring only clean data with improved secure restore including automation and proven recovery orchestration for all workloads.
  • MFA: Empower a zero-trust journey with multi-factor authentication (MFA), password-less service accounts (gMSA) for Windows and single-use credentials for Linux and fortify your defense against cyberattacks with Kerberos-only and IPv6-only environment support.

VCD/service provider improvements:

To expand and improve our capabilities in service provider environments, we introduced and improved our features for VMware Cloud Director:

  • VCD-to-VCD CDP: Eliminate downtime and minimize data loss with multi-tenant Continuous Data Protection (CDP) in VMware Cloud Director. With VCD-to-VCD CDP, you’ll instantly failover to the latest state or point in time with ultra-low recovery point objective (RPO) granularity at the vApp level.
  • CDP to VCD via Veeam Cloud Connect: Simplify disaster recovery (DR) and minimize downtime with instant failover capabilities. With CDP to VCD via Veeam Cloud Connect, service providers can replicate tenants’ vCD-resources between production and DR vCD-servers.

NEW Veeam Data Platform

Veeam Data Platform delivers three key requirements to keep a business running: Data Security, Data Recovery and Data Freedom to back up and use data from any location without platform or cloud lock-ins. There are three enterprise-grade editions as well: Foundation, Advanced and Premium. All editions contain Veeam’s award winning Veeam Backup & Replication and Instant Recovery. Advanced and Premium editions also deliver advanced resiliency features including monitoring, analytics and recovery.

  • The Foundation edition offers industry-leading data protection with Veeam Backup & Replication v12, which includes over 500 new features and enhancements.
  • The Advanced edition combines Veeam Backup & Replication with Veeam ONE to give customers deep, intelligent monitoring and observability to help them identify and resolve any backup or recovery problems before they begin.
  • The Premium edition offers ultimate enterprise data protection and recovery capabilities as a premier offering with Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam ONE and Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (Orchestrator). Building on the other editions, Premium adds the full automation of a complex data recovery process with near-zero recovery point objectives (RPOs) while automating testing and providing complete data resiliency with the confidence of one-click recovery. Premium edition customers are also eligible for Veeam Ransomware Warranty, which covers the cost of data recovery for up to $5 million dollars in the event of a ransomware or cyberattack.

The launch of V12 represents a significant milestone in the world of data management solutions. With a strong focus on flexibility and security, Veeam has introduced new features that enable businesses to keep their critical data safe and remain compliant with industry standards. Service providers can also benefit from these updates by expanding their backup business and offering more reliable solutions to their customers. All in all, Veeam’s commitment to innovation and customer feedback has once again paid off with the release of V12.
