Technologies Against Ransomware in 2022

Veeam recently published the largest independent ransomware research project of its kind, the 2022 Ransomware Trends Report. For the next few weeks, we’ll be unpacking some of the key findings of that research, including “Technologies and Methodologies to remediation against these attacks?

  • The first key learning is around how organizations ensured that they were able to restore “clean data” back into the production environment:
  • Equally interesting was how organizations ensured they had recoverable media that was protected from the bad actors, including immutable or air-gapped storage:
  • Lastly, was how organizations radically reduced their recovery time and increased their likelihood to successfully recover through orchestration and workflows:

Detection capabilities can only do so much to block cyberattacks. When attacks are successful, business leaders want to know how quickly normal operations can resume, with some putting this desire ahead of investigating the attack. Veeam understands the pressure put on both investigative teams and backup teams, which is why we have multiple recovery options that allow you to optimize your recovery processes and quickly restore multiple machines simultaneously. Further, we provide tools that allow you to recover systems and applications in a network-isolated environment to execute health checks that include application verifications such as executing specific Microsoft Active Directory or SQL commands to ensure application integrity. Bringing these capabilities together is allowing us to flip the script on bad actors, making ransomware recovery the faster and more cost-effective option, and making the mantra of “don’t pay the ransom” a reality.

This is part of a blog series over the next few weeks, to hopefully equip you to have new conversations that are fortified by industry data:

We hope the series is helpful.  If you have questions related to the research, please reach out to us at StrategicResearch@veeam.com. To learn more about Veeam’s approaches to recovering from ransomware, click here.
